James van Riemsdyk‘s new deal kicks in next season and will pay him an average salary of $4.25 million over the next six years.

The 23-year-old forward will be making $500,000 more than leading scorer Claude Giroux despite enduring an injury-plagued campaign in 2011-12 that saw him fail to live up to expectations.
Van Riemsdyk skated in 43 games due to various injuries and ended up with just 11 goals and 13 assists. His name came up in trade rumors over the course of the season and there’s a chance that he could be moved during the summer.
Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgrem has proven that isn’t shy about about making bold moves when it comes to his roster, so don’t be surprised if van Riemsdyk is mentioned again in trade talks near the 2012 NHL Entry Draft or during the summer.
