After trading Jarome Iginla to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Calgary Flames may just be getting started. Other Flames candidates with the potential to move include Jay BouwmeesterMark Giordano, Miikka Kiprusoff, and Mike Cammalleri. Bouwmeester, in particular, has reportedly attracted the attention of teams like the Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, St. Louis Blues, Ottawa Senators, among others.

According to ESPN Insider Craig Custance Flames GM Jay Feaster must deal Bouwmeester before this season’s trade deadline.

“The Bouwmeester deal is the one in which Feaster can capitalize on the market rather than working with an iconic star to hand-pick his destination. That’s the deal on which to judge Feaster. There’s no shortage of teams looking to add a top-four defenseman, and Bouwmeester is a legitimate top-pairing defenseman, despite a contract that is probably a little higher than most teams would like to pay. He has one season remaining on a deal that comes with a cap hit of $6.68 million, and according to CapGeek.com it has a no-trade clause like most Flames seem to have. But it’d be hard to picture him refusing a trade to a contending team like Detroit, one that has a need, assets and cap space to make a Bouwmeester deal happen.”
