NHL Trade Rumors: Vancouver Canucks Prepared To Hold On To Roberto Luongo?
Is Mike Gillis really prepared to call the Florida Panthers bluff by keeping Roberto Luongo on his roster into the new season?
Puck Daddy’s Ryan Lambert is beginning to suspect the Vancouver Canucks general manager is willing to wait as long as it takes to get the return he desires namely prized Panthers prospect Nick Bjugstad in any deal for Luongo.
“Gillis can sit back and wait for the Panthers to come to him on this,” Lambert writes. “His team isn’t the one with the need, but is Florida ready to enter another season with Jose Theodore and Scott Clemmensen between the pipes?
“[Panthers GM] Dale Tallon may love what Bjugstad brings to his organization, but does he love it more than a significantly improved chance to make the playoffs for the second consecutive season? That’s what Gillis is counting on, and he’s no dummy.”
