UPDATE: Veteran John Madden could be skating with his new teammates in Florida by the weekend.

ESPN.com’s Scott Burnside says ”The injury-riddled Florida Panthers are expected to sign center John Madden to a one-year deal as early as Thursday, a source said Wednesday.”

There’s talk unsigned veteran John Madden could land with the Florida Panthers.

George Richards of the Miami Herald ”The Panthers could get some help soon as the Christmas roster freeze is lifted on Wednesday. Florida is said to have interest in free agent center John Madden — a three-time Stanley Cup champion with New Jersey (two) and Chicago. Madden, 38, scored 12 goals for the Wild last season and has been working out in Minnesota waiting for a call.”

Darren Dreger tweeted that Panthers GM Dale Tallon “remains undecided, but may need the help with so many injuries.”
