Kris Letang‘s proposed eight-year/$58 million contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins is still unsigned.

According to multiple sources, Letang wants a verbal agreement from the Penguins that they will not trade him next summer but the team isn’t willing to guarantee him that request. His current contract, which does not include a limited- or no-movement clause, will expire on July 1, 2014. He has two proposals from Pittsburgh, one of which includes a limited-movement clause with a higher cash value and another with a full no-movement clause at a lower payout. The framework appears to be there but there’s still some work left to do.
