Quick Hits from around the league:

  • Darren Helm has inked a four-year contract worth $8.5 million with the Detroit Red Wings. In 68 games with Detroit in 2011-12, he generated nine goals and 17 assists. Helm would’ve been eligible to be a restricted free agent in July. His regular season was cut short by a sprained knee and he sustained a torn left forearm tendon in Game 1 of the opening round against Nashville. However, he is expected to fine for training camp.
  • Josh Harding has agreed to terms on a three-year, $5.7 million contract to stay with the Minnesota Wild. He expressed an interest to remain with the Wild if he could get a multi-year contract and that’s exactly what the potential unrestricted free agent received. Harding played in 34 games with Minnesota this past season, while posting a 13-12-4 record with a .917 save percentage and a 2.62 goals-against average. He has struggled with injuries and consistency in his career, but can be a solid backup when he’s healthy.
  • A report out of Finland is stating that Teemu Selanne will be back with the Anaheim Ducks for another season in 2012-13. Finnish media outlet, Veikkaaja, says that Selanne wants to be back with the Ducks and barring an injury setback, he will sign on for another tour of duty in the NHL. The 41-year-old winger is presently back in Finland, with his family, and he doesn’t have any health issues and is working out. Anaheim hasn’t heard anything yet though and Selanne is still expected to make his decision known by July 1.
  • Jordan Staal has not requested a trade out of Pittsburgh and GM Ray Shero expects to speak with the center’s agent, Paul Krepelka, at the NHL draft this weekend. Shero wants to re-sign Staal to a contract extension since he can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2012-13 campaign. There have been plenty of trade rumors circulating Staal already, but it doesn’t look like either side wants to tread down that path right now.
