Quick Hits: Quite Deadline So Far, Grabovski, Schenn, Dallas, Carter
- It has been a quiet lead-up to the trade deadline so far. TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger says General Managers around the league simply think that it is too early at this point to make any moves. Dreger says that teams will eventually pull the trigger though and that deadline day won’t be a dud.
- Mikhail Grabovski‘s pending unrestricted free agency has led to some speculation he could be moved before the deadline. However, Grabovski’s agent has been in Toronto of late and is likely negotiating an extension for his client.
- Speculation continues to linger that Maple Leafs defenseman Luke Schenn could find his way to Philadelphia and join his younger brother Brayden with the Flyers. Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun writes that the Flyers are still looking for defensive depth because of Chris Pronger‘s absence.
- ESPNDallas.com’s Richard Durrett proposes The Stars be patience and the more cash made available by new ownership isn’t reason enough to sacrifice young talent for the here and now. The general manager of the Dallas club appears to be in tune with that line of thinking. ”It’s dangerous to work that way,” General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk said this week. “You can’t just say, ‘OK, you’ve got a bag of money. Go buy some players.’ History shows that doesn’t equate to success.”
- According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger on the NHL on TSN’s Insider Trading, the Columbus Blue Jackets have just received one offer on the table for center Jeff Carter a low one at that.
