Quick Hits from around the league:

  • The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed netminder Riku Helenius to a two-year contract. GM Steve Yzerman said the deal will officially be announced at some point today. According to a report, the first year of the deal is a two-way agreement and the second year carries a one-way pact that will garner him $650,000 regardless of where he plays. Helenius led JYP to a Finnish Elite League championship this past season.
  • Chris Kelly‘s four-year deal at $12 million won’t officially be signed until July 1. That is the first day that he will be eligible because of tagging purposes, as the Bruins rid themselves of expiring contracts against their salary cap.
  • Jim Slater agreed to a three-year contract on Wednesday worth $4.8 million. ”We talked a lot within the group with respect to the type of person that Jim is, what he brings to the table, his work ethic,” GM Kevin Cheveldayoff said. “He’s someone we feel very, very comfortable about bringing into our fold on a longer-term basis.”
  • Boston GM Peter Chiarelli said that according to Tim Thomas agent, Bill Zito, nothing has changed with regard to his client’s decision not to play in 2012-13. Chiarelli also said that right now he is preparing for the upcoming season with the mindset that Tuukka Rask and Anton Khudobin will be his goaltenders.
