Quick Hits: Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, Logan Couture, Sergei Samsonov
Quick Hits from around the league:
- Taylor Hall and the Edmonton Oilers are reportedly close on agreeing to a new contract, according to TSN Edmonton reporter Ryan Rishaug. It was reported that preliminary discussions on a contract extension were held last week between the two sides, so things are certainly moving along well. It will probably be a long-term contract and the rate at which six-year terms keep getting churned out lately, it wouldn’t be shocking if the length of the deal is around there.
- Edmonton Oilers are discussing a new contract with 2008 first-round pick Jordan Eberle. TSN’s Ryan Rishaug reported that the negotiations shouldn’t be classified as close to completion but they are ongoing. Eberle busted out offensively in 2011-12 with a team-leading 34 goals and 76 points in 78 games.
- When Logan Couture’s contract expires at the end of the 2013-14 season, he will probably get a new deal that is similar to Carolina Hurricane’s Jeff Skinner, according to CNSBayArea.com. Couture and Skinner have posted nearly identical statistics since breaking into the NHL in 2010-11. In 159 games, Couture has racked up 121 points, while Skinner has collected 107 points in 146 contests for an average of 0.73 points per game. The 20-year-old Skinner recently inked a six-year deal worth an average annual value of $5.725 million and the 23-year-old Couture will make $5.75 million total over the next two seasons before becoming a restricted free agent.
- Sergei Samsonov does not have a tryout in place with the San Jose Sharks. Joe Haggerty reports that Samsonov’s agent is actually Neil Abbott and that there are still discussions going on with several teams regarding his client’s return to the NHL. “Sergei is definitely making a comeback,” Abbott told CSNNE.com. “He is skating with Igor in Detroit, but Larionov is not his agent. I am speaking with several teams and we have not made a deal with the San Jose Sharks.”
