Quick Hits from around the league:

  • Tomas Holmstrom is expected to announce his retirement on Tuesday, according to MLive.com. The Detroit Red Wings have called a news conference for 4:30 p.m. ET to make the announcement. Holmstrom won four Stanley Cups with the Red Wings in 15 seasons with the team.
  • The Calgary Flames have traded Henrik Karlsson to the Chicago Blackhawks for a seventh round pick in the 2013 Draft. Karlsson lost his job as the backup to Miikka Kiprusoff. The Blackhawks sent Karlsson to the AHL Rockford IceHogs where he will provide insurance to Corey Crawford and Ray Emery. The draft pick was originally the Ottawa Senators which the Blackhawks acquired in an earlier deal.
  • Todd Bertuzzi had tests for mononucleosis come back negative on Monday, so he is projected to make his return to Detroit’s lineup on Friday. It was feared that he might miss weeks and possibly a month, after he experienced some symptoms late last week. Bertuzzi did not travel with the team for their two-game road trip to start the year and he will not play in Tuesday’s home opener against Dallas.
  • The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired forward Jean-Francois Jacques from the Florida Panthers in exchange for future considerations. Jacques has appeared in 24 games this season with San Antonio of the American Hockey League and has collected five goals with two assists. The 27-year-old Montreal native has nine goals and eight assists for 17 points in 166 NHL games with Edmonton Oilers and Anaheim Ducks. He notched 12 penalty minutes in six games for the Ducks last season.
