Schneider Trade “Highly Unlikely”
TSN’s Bob McKenzie recently suggested on-air it’s “highly unlikely” the Canucks would move Corey Schneider ahead of the trade deadline. The number 2 netminder is the club’s “best insurance policy” should Roberto Luongo become hurt or fall apart otherwise. The Canucks want to win a Cup, now. And having two quality netminders gives them a big advantage.
ESPN.com’s Pierre LeBrun agrees. Even though General Manager Mike Gillis would like to add a big, bottom-six forward, Schneider will probably end the season in a Canucks’ uniform.
“The Vancouver Canucks are looking for size up front, most likely in the form of a bottom-six forward. Backup goalie Cory Schneider, who is starting material, would need to fetch a big-time offer to move before February 27th. My sense is he’s more likely to move in the offseason.”
