Willis suggest Jason Arnott, Blair Betts, Dominic Moore, Brendan Morrison, and Jesse Winchester as options, and proposes Daymond Langkow could serve as a decent two-way forward in the short-term.

Willis says “Langkow is similar to Arnott in that he’s probably more suited to a depth offensive than a defensive role. He’s also smaller than Arnott, and not especially good in the faceoff circle. However, he has killed penalties in the past and last year showed he could still play hockey after returning from a serious neck injury that cost him almost all of the 2010-11 season. There’s a good case that he’s a better two-way player than Arnott right now”

• Don’t be surprised if the Florida Panthers make a play for Martin Brodeur if he hits the free agent market. Brodeur has yet to re-sign with the New Jersey Devils and there is a very real chance he will test free agency. If that should come to pass, the Panthers might see him as the perfect mentor for starting goalie of the future Jakob Markstrom.
• Expect Florida Panthers top prospect Jonathan Huberdeau to break camp with the Panthers this upcoming season. The 19-year-old has nothing left to prove in junior and likely does not need any seasoning in the AHL after registering 72 points in only 37 games in the QMJHL this past season. Huberdeau also led his team, the Saint John Sea Dogs, to the Memorial Cup Semifinals,he has star potential.
• Dave Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports the Sharks aren’t expected to sign any of their pending UFAs before July 1. So other clubs will have a shot at forwards Torrey Mitchell, Dominic Moore, Brad Winchester, and Daniel Winnik.

Moore, 31, had four goals and 15 assists along with 48 penalty minutes in 56 games for the Lightning this season after scoring a career-high 18 goals for Tampa Bay in 2010-11. The Sharks will be his ninth NHL team; he has 67 goals and 112 assists for 179 points in 507 regular-season games since beginning his career in 2003-04 with the New York Rangers, who took him in the third round in the 200 NHL Draft.

“Depending on how many points we get out of it and we see what else happens around the league, we’ll get a better indication,” Yzerman said Thursday.

Forwards Ryan Malone, Dominic Moore and defenseman Pavel Kubina have been the subjects of trade rumors of late. There’s word the New York Rangers and Calgary Flames could be interested in Kubina; Malone is said to be on the Toronto Maple Leafs’, Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings’ respective radar.

Meanwhile, ESPN.com’s Pierre LeBrun believes Moore good be a good fit with the Pittsburgh Penguins, if a contract extension with the Lightning isn’t hammered out in the next little while.

“Yes, we have had discussions, so we’ll see what happens,” Moore’s agent Larry Kelly told ESPN.com Tuesday.

If both sides can’t hammer out a deal soon LeBrun suggests the Pittsburgh Penguins could be one of several contenders interested in the hard-working, two-way forward.
