Toronto Maple Leafs Could Be Interested In Trading For Edmonton Oilers No. 1 Pick
Update: According to the General Manager Brian Burke of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team is not interested in trading Luke Schenn to the Edmonton Oilers.
“I have never discussed this trade or any trade involving Luke Schenn to Edmonton,” Burke said, as reported by the Toronto Star.
June 11: The Edmonton Oilers owners of the No. 1 pick are open to trading out of the spot. The Toronto Sun’s Steve Simmons writes, “Apparently, the Toronto Maple Leafs want to move up in the draft and Edmonton may want to move its No. 1 pick. A deal, one that could involve Luke Schenn, is not out of the question here.”
The Oilers would prefer to add a defenseman, and adding a young guy like Schenn along with perhaps other pieces, like Toronto’s pick at No. 5 would be a possible deal. It would allow the Oilers to not only add an established NHL blueliner, but also add another defenseman with the pick, perhaps Matt Dumba or Morgan Rielly.
Meanwhile, the Leafs have long sought a dynamic, elite forward and Nail Yakupov fits the bill with the No. 1 pick.
