Tuomo Ruutu, Hurricanes Expected To Agree To 4 Year Extension
Update: The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to terms with forward Tuomo Ruutu on a four-year contract extension worth $19 million.
The average annual value of the deal is $4.75 million per season.
According to the Raleigh News and Observer, the deal has a no-trade clause for the first three seasons.
“We’re thankful Tuomo is staying with us. He’s an important building block for us in moving forward,” Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford told the Observer. “He’s an important player to our team. He’s the type of player that, long term, would be hard to replace.”
The 28-year-old has 17 goals and 13 assists through 57 games with the Hurricanes this season.
Bob McKenzie is reporting via Twitter that “Assuming no hiccups, Tuomo Ruutu expected to get a 4-year extension with the Carolina Hurricanes, with a slight bump on the $3.8M he’s currently earning.”
McKenzie also tweeted “Also, the $3.8M figure was his cap hit on the last deal. He’s receiving $4.4M.”
