Weekend Roundup: Martin, Parise, Philly, Turris, Stall, Roy, Stafford
A roundup of this weekends rumors and news:
- Jacques Martin was fired as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens. Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette tweeted Martin was fired earlier Saturday morning. Randy Cunneyworth has reportedly been named interim head coach until the end of the season.
- TSN’s Darren Dreger says trade chatter won’t subside until Zach Parise re-signs with the New Jersey Devils. And the feeling is the 27-year-old will re-sign long-term before the season is over.
- According to several sources, including the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren has implied he feels comfortable with his current gaggle of defensemen and currently does not plan to make any moves even with Chris Pronger out.
- The Ottawa Senators acquired forward Kyle Turris from the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday for defenseman David Rundblad and a second-round draft pick.
- Pittsburgh Penguins GM Ray Shero tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that he wants to finalize a new deal with Jordan Staal by this summer.
- The Toronto Sun ”Talk in Buffalo is the Sabres would trade Derek Roy and Drew Stafford if they can find takers.”
